Welcome to Get Off The Mat
Where Democracy Fights Back
Mission: At Get Off The Mat, we're not just a Political Action Committee; we're a rallying cry for the fed-up, a digital battleground for the bold, a creative nexus for the voices that refuse to be drowned out. We're here to channel collective outrage into action, turning digital might into real-world change. We push hard against the status quo, not just to challenge but to overhaul. We don’t whisper; we roar.
Vision: We see a future where digital activism reshapes the political landscape, where money doesn't drown out the voices of the many. Our goal? To leverage cutting-edge digital strategies to promote policies and leaders who truly represent the people’s interests. And yes, we’re taking a swing at restructuring the Democratic leadership starting with a bold move against Chuck Schumer. It’s time for leaders who aren’t just playing politics but are ready to fight tooth and nail for justice and equity.
Our Approach:
Crowdsourced Creativity: Why should a few control what many can ignite? We’re tapping into the vast well of angry, energized, and talented individuals who can produce piercing content that punches hard and true. This is creative collaboration on a massive scale, fighting back with every meme, video, and tweet.
Personal Stories: So much of the Trump Administration’s “flood the zone” approach is designed to mask the personal damage of their policies. But talking about those impacts matters — both for the person speaking and the others who are feeling alone.
Targeted Digital Campaigns: Every ad, every post, and every share has a purpose. From rallying for change in Democratic leadership to advocating for policies that protect and empower, we're about setting clear, bold calls to action.
Spanish Content: We’re not just translating content; we’re creating native Spanish campaigns that resonate and engage, recognizing the critical importance of Latino voices in our movement.
Inclusive Community Building: This is where passionate, like-minded individuals come together not just to vent but to strategize and mobilize. We’re building a network of activists, creators, and thinkers ready to shake up the system.
Join Us: Roll up your sleeves. Whether you’re a musician, artist, gamer, writer, journalist, politician, healthcare professional, or simply someone who believes in fighting for what’s right, there’s a place for you here. Let’s turn the tide together.
The Pillars of Our Fight
Technology: Our lives are infused with technology. And no matter how much we love it, hate it, resent it or find ourselves addicted to it, one things is clear: the real winners of the last generation of tech innovation were the large tech companies who abuse their access to and control over us and our data — including helping radicalize young users with opaque algorithmically-driven content that has elevated conspiracy theories, fake science and destroyed families. There were lessons that we should have learned from the rise of social media that need to be applied to the coming Artificial Intelligence tidal wave — starting with protecting people, our privacy and our democracy. The next generation of tech oligarchs shouldn’t get to ride roughshod over Americans and our democracy the way the last generation did. But it’s going to take the American people to force that to happen, because the row of tech oligarchs on stage at Trump’s inauguration made it clear whose interests are most likely to be protected.
Anti-Corruption: Trump’s grift is a national embarrassment, but it’s just the latest in a series of moves that have been calcifying the legalization of corruption in the American political system — starting with the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling. But corruption is even bigger than that. It includes legacy political establishments with the power to lock out challengers. We believe that America needs more democracy, not less. Not only should we prioritize getting big money out of politics, but we should make sure that elected officials at all levels have enough income to prevent them from having to be independently wealthy or take money from donors just to pay their bills. We should implement nationwide voting laws that make election days holidays, ban gerrymandering, implement ranked choice voting, require open primaries and publicly fund elections.
Democracy for the 21st Century: Today the only thing that Democratic Party has going for it is that it is not the Republican Cult of Donald Trump. The current Party, however, is at its least popular point in modern history, which is also weakening its fundraising and recruiting capabilities, as well as its ability to rally support among even the most stalwart supporters. The Democratic National Committee staff drama is a mess that spills out into public, involves re-running elections, losing young supporters, and protecting the status quo during a time where the average American voter has been screaming at the top of their lungs that the status quo doesn’t cut it. The Democratic Party of 2025 shouldn’t keep trying to cash credibility checks on the Presidential accomplishments of FDR, JFK and LBJ. We need bold, future-focused priorities that help elevate the voice and the power of younger generations, and limit the institutionally protected power of legacy incumbents.
Voice:
Imagine stepping into the ring, not with a butter knife but with the full force of democratic fervor. Our branding—featuring boxing gloves and a tenacity that could make Frank Zappa proud—reflects our readiness to fight. Mouthy? Yes. Unapologetic? Absolutely. We’re here to deliver knockout blows to a system that’s long rigged against the many.
Calls to Action:
Every message we craft comes with a sharp hook. Not just to catch attention but to compel action. We're creating landing pages that arm you with information, scripts, and steps to make real changes. This isn’t passive engagement; it’s a call to arms.
Get Off The Mat – Because if we don’t fight hard, who will?
